A WIDE RANGE OF FLAVORS

There are hundreds of varieties of figs that have been developed all over the world. These varieties vary in fruit size, color, and flavor. Some fig varieties produce fruits that are the size of a big marble, while others produce fruits that can be almost as big as a tennis ball.

The three general flavor profiles of figs are berry, honey, and sugar. However, some figs can have a combination of sugar and berry flavors or a combination of honey and berry flavors . To learn more about fig flavor profiles, click here.

  • BERRY FIGS

Berry figs have more of a tart flavor as opposed to just being sweet. These figs can have hints of strawberry or raspberry and are absolutely delicious! Berry figs can have a dark purple skin or a green skin, depending on the variety.

CAN YOU GROW FIGS?

Fig trees perform best in states with mild winters, but they are somewhat cold-tolerant. Established fig trees can handle temperatures between 15-20°F, as long as those temperatures are not sustained for several days.

If you live in an area with winter temps of 15°F or below, we recommend covering the trees with frost protection fabric in the winter months.

You can also grow fig trees in large pots and move them indoors during the winter. Many of our northern customers do this and it's a great way to ensure they can still enjoy delicious figs in the summer months!

GROWN IN OUR OWN ORCHARD

All our fig trees are propagated and grown with cuttings from our own orchard here in south Georgia. We take special care to ensure that all our fig trees are healthy and have an established root system prior to shipping. Each tree in our fig orchard and greenhouse is labeled so we can ensure that every tree we ship is true to variety.
